Opened in 2014, Mostly Modern is an Oakland-based furniture design and fabrication studio. We strive to combine the best in design and materials to deliver unique pieces of lasting quality.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - All materials we use are certified by the FSC so you know that source-forests are meticulously and sustainably managed. In addition to maintaining the natural ecosystems FSC forests must adhere to certain ownership and planning critera; among those are recognizing and respecting indigenous people's land rights.

Titebond Wood Glue - All pieces are constructed using Titebond Wood Glues. Provides a strong and resilient hold while being non-toxic and solvent free.




Mark grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. The son of an architect, he was drawn to and immersed in the works of iconic designers like Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles and Ray Eames.  

After receiving his BFA in Design|Media Arts from UCLA in 2005, Mark began working in the furniture industry for the McGuire Furniture Company. Over the next nine years he had multiple roles, including the last four years as Manager – Production, overseeing McGuire’s San Francisco-based factory.

Always carrying a dream to someday design and create his own pieces, Mark opened Mostly Modern in 2014. Leveraging his extensive industry experience and formal design background, he strives to create original designs backed by a commitment to quality and service.
